Mulu Geothermal Hot Spring is a spring in Mulu, the small settlement beside Gunung Mulu National Park in the Marudi district of Sarawak's Miri Division. Mulu Village, a guesthouse in Kampung Melinau, says the spring is known only to locals and is a few minutes' walk from its rooms.

It suits people already in Mulu for the caves who have a spare hour, not anyone after a bathing complex. Almost nothing about it is published: no temperature, fee or photos, and hotel listings mark a 'hot spring bath' at Mulu Village as paid without giving a price.

What we know

Mulu Village's website lists a "Geothermal Hot Spring" among the things around the guesthouse, known only to locals and a few minutes' walk away. An OpenStreetMap contributor added a point named Mulu Hot Spring in July 2024, close to Sungai Melinau and about 900 m west of the Mulu Marriott in a straight line.

Hotel listings for Mulu Village tick "hot spring bath (paid)" under amenities. We could not confirm whether that means the same spring, a bath at the guesthouse, or a guided visit, or what it costs. Ask the guesthouse.

Mulu Village itself is built as a replica of the base camp of the 1977/78 Royal Geographical Society expedition to Mulu.

What we don't know

We found no water temperature, no mineral analysis, no photos and no visitor reports from the past 12 months. We don't know whether there is a pool deep enough to sit in or only a warm seep, whose land it is on, or whether it lies inside the national park boundary. No source mentions toilets, changing space or shelter. Treat the map pin as approximate.

Fitting it into a Mulu trip

Most visitors come for the park's show caves and trails, run from park headquarters on the Melinau river. The spring is a short add-on if you stay at Mulu Village or nearby in Kampung Melinau: ask your hosts whether it is worth seeing at the moment and whether someone can walk you there.

Getting there

Getting to Mulu: there is no road. Fly to Mulu Airport (AirBorneo lists flights from Miri, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu), or take river boats from Marudi along the Baram and Tutoh rivers.

To the spring: Mulu Village in Kampung Melinau says it is a few minutes' walk from the guesthouse. We know of no signposts, so WhatsApp the guesthouse (+60 13-636 3851) for directions or someone to show you, rather than relying on the map pin.

Before you go

  • WhatsApp Mulu Village (+60 13-636 3851) before you walk over: ask whether the spring is accessible after recent rain and who can show you the way.
  • Ask what the 'hot spring bath (paid)' on its hotel listings is and the price, so you know if it is the same spring.
  • Ask permission before walking in; it is not known whose land the spring is on.
  • Fit it into a gap between park activities rather than planning a day around it; there is no published detail on how big or warm it is.
  • Test the water with your hand first, since no temperature has been published.
