Kampung Panchor Hot Spring is a village hot spring at Kampung Panchor Dayak, about 40 km from Kuching off the Kuching–Serian road. Covered wooden pools sit over the spring, linked to the ticket hut by a plank boardwalk, and the Serian District Office gives the average water temperature as 42°C. The Tourism Ministry built the site as a community tourism project, finished in May 2012, and the local community runs it.

Expect a simple kampung setup: basic changing rooms, cold-water showers and cash-only tickets. It stays open until 10pm, which makes it the pick near Kuching for an evening soak.

The pools

Visitors in 2016 counted five sheltered wooden pools plus a tiny mud pool, and one said you can scoop clay from the back of the stream. The district office puts the average temperature at 42°C. Its poster, like the notices at the site, tells you to test the water with a hand or foot first, lower yourself in slowly, get out and drink cool water if you feel dizzy, and not to shower straight after soaking. No mineral analysis has been published.

The wooden decking grows algae and gets slippery, and one reviewer advised against bringing small children. Reviews of cleanliness are mixed: one older review found it old and not very clean, while several 2026 reviewers called the pools and grounds clean. An August 2026 visitor said some of the boards are due for replacement. A September 2026 reviewer found the water pleasant rather than scalding, and not hot enough to boil eggs.

Facilities

There are changing rooms, toilets, a canteen and shelters to rest and eat in, according to August 2026 reviews. The showers are cold water only, and a September 2026 visitor counted just two stalls, separate from the toilets and open at the top. Outside food is allowed, but staff ask you not to eat beside the pools. Tickets are cash only.

Background

The Tourism Ministry developed the site for RM450,000, completed in May 2012. In early 2013 men and women shared one pool, and the ministry said it was looking at a women's section, better roads, electricity and parking. Some visitors believe the water helps with heart problems, diabetes and blood pressure; these are personal accounts, not medical findings. In March 2026 the Serian council said work was under way to upgrade the spring into a wellness and leisure spot, without giving a timeline.

When to go

Reviewers say weekdays are quieter than weekends, and one recommended coming from 5pm. Another paired the soak with a visit to the Semenggoh orangutan centre. With a 10pm close, an after-work soak from Kuching is realistic. A September 2026 visitor who came alone at night by motorbike found the access road dark, with no houses along it, and suggested families with small children come in daylight.

Current status

Google Maps reviews from June to October 2026 show the spring open, with the RM7 adult ticket and a 10pm close. We found no phone number for the site.

Getting there

From Kuching, drive about 40 to 45 km (roughly 45 minutes) along the Kuching–Serian road to Batu 27 (mile 27). The Serian District Office says the turn-off is on the right after Tapah town; a brown signboard reading "Panchor Hot Spring 1.5 km" marks the junction, under a green sign for Kpg Panchor Cina. Parking details are not published. Public transport is not practical; drive or take a taxi or ride-hailing car.
