Sungai Klah Hot Springs, which many people search for as Felda Residence Hot Springs after the villa resort beside it, is a FELDA-run park on the Klah River, about 10 km from Sungkai town. It opened in December 2003 on 6.5 hectares and cost RM6 million to build. The source is the hottest measured in Peninsular Malaysia, recorded at up to 100.2°C, which is why you can boil eggs here.

One ticket covers the hot pools, cold stream pools and a water play area, and the park is a short drive from the Sungkai exit of the PLUS highway, an easy stop between KL and Ipoh or Cameron Highlands. Some villas at the adjoining Felda Residence have a private indoor jacuzzi filled with hot spring water.

What the pools are like

The spring eye is close to boiling: a 2022 Warta Geologi paper gives 100.2°C, and the 1997 national survey by Samsudin and colleagues listed 98°C. The bathing pools are cooled down. A 2025 guide counted three hot pools at different temperatures in the Therapy Park, plus two cool pools fed by waterfalls, one 2 ft deep for children and one 4.5 ft deep for adults. The park does not publish pool temperatures, so test with a hand or foot before getting in, especially near the inflows.

There is also a stony stream of hot water you walk barefoot along for a foot soak, and a boardwalk across the source area. Stay on the boardwalk.

Boiling eggs

The egg pool sits at the hottest part of the system. Baskets are provided and eggs are sold on site, about RM5 for four or five eggs in 2025–2026 reports. Do not touch the water and keep children well back from the vent.

Other facilities

Besides the hot pools there is a wave pool with slides, a children's pool, private family baths, a traditional massage and reflexology centre, a mini zoo, a mini mart, food and drink stalls, a cafeteria and a small clothing shop. Outside food is not allowed, according to a 2025 guide. In October 2026 a reviewer paid RM50 to rent a pondok (hut) for the whole day, and private jacuzzi rooms cost RM50 an hour, or RM80 with air-conditioning. The same visitor paid for everything, including the food stalls, by QR.

Reviewers describe the water park and buildings as ageing but still working. In September 2026 one found the park clean but said loose stones in the hot and cold pool floors gave them small cuts, and the jacuzzi needed cleaning. In August 2026 another found the water slides dry and closed off, and a third found the smaller hot pools too hot and stayed in the big one.

Staying at Felda Residence Hot Springs

The Felda Residence villas are a three-minute walk from the park gate. Some villas have a private indoor jacuzzi filled with hot spring water, and room rates include park entry and breakfast. One couple paid under RM350 for a one-bedroom villa with jacuzzi and two park tickets. Reviews mention worn furniture, a kitchenette with little equipment and no WiFi in rooms, so ask for a recently refurbished villa.

When to go

Weekday mornings at opening are the quietest. Weekends and school holidays are the busiest. Saturday is the only late night: the Google listing gives 10pm closing that day and 6pm on the others.

Why it is so hot

Sungai Klah is not volcanic. A 2022 Warta Geologi paper links its heat to granite that has been slowly cooling since the Triassic period, with water rising through faults. A 2017 USM study named Sungai Klah one of the five best sites in Peninsular Malaysia for future geothermal energy. We could not find published water chemistry for the bathing pools, so the mineral type is unknown.

Getting there

By car from KL: take the North-South Expressway (PLUS) north and leave at the Sungkai toll. Turn left at the junction, drive 1 km, turn left again and follow the signs to the park, about 10 km from Sungkai town. One guide gives 70 minutes from KL; a reviewer allowed 2 to 2.5 hours with traffic. Sungkai is about 50 km south of Ipoh. The road is sealed all the way, so any car will do.

Supplies: there is no convenience store or eatery near the park. If you are staying overnight, buy groceries before you reach Sungkai.

Public transport: not practical. The closest option is the ETS from KL Sentral to Slim River, then a taxi or Grab for the rest of the way.

Before you go

  • QR payment worked across the park for an October 2026 visitor, including food stalls, but carry some cash as a backup.
  • Come at 8am on a weekday for the emptiest pools.
  • Use the wire baskets at the egg pool and keep children away from the source vent: the water is close to 100°C.
  • Test each Therapy Park pool before getting in, and consider water shoes: temperatures vary and are not posted, and a September 2026 reviewer cut their feet on loose floor stones.
  • Outside food is not allowed in the park, and there is little to eat nearby, so plan meals around the on-site stalls.
  • If booking a Felda Residence villa, ask for a refurbished unit and bring your own utensils for the kitchenette.
