The pools
The council lists nine pools. The main pool (about 545 m², 1.6 m deep) sits on the source at up to 50°C and is closed to bathers; it supplies hot water to the rest. Four adult pools (400 m² in total, 1.3 to 1.6 m deep) run at up to 40°C. The children's pool is 0.5 to 0.6 m deep and kept at a maximum of 39°C, for under-12s with a parent watching. The women-only pool is screened for privacy.
The Geological Survey's 1997 inventory measured the spring at 55°C at the surface, and a 2024 UiTM article gives 30 to 60°C across the site. The water is sulphurous, and the same article notes visitors with skin complaints come specifically to soak in it. Adult pools are deep enough that small children should stay in their own pool.
Chalets and facilities
The council's Chalet Air Panas Ulu Legong is on site. Rates on the council page (footer dated 2020): Bajet RM110, Standard RM130 and Pool View RM135 for two adults; Deluxe RM150 for three; Single Storey RM195 and VIP RM300 for four; Double Storey RM385 for six; and a 10-bed dormitory for RM260. Every unit has air-conditioning and its own bathroom with a water heater. Breakfast is not included. Check-in is 3pm and check-out noon.
Around the pools: a surau, public toilets, changing rooms, a food court, a playground, an outdoor gym, BBQ pits and a campsite (18 pitches in 2017). A seminar hall takes up to 80 people. Google Maps lists wheelchair-accessible parking, entrance and toilets.
September 2026 reviewers describe newly upgraded facilities with plenty of toilets and shower rooms and a large car park, though one still found the toilets a bit dirty. The small food court is cheap, and reviewers paid by both cash and e-wallet.
When to go
The council lists it as open 24 hours, though a 2026 visitor guide says the last ticket is sold at 11.45pm and that food stalls run 6pm–6am. The same guide says it gets very busy on weekend nights, about 10pm–2am, and on public holidays, and that weekday daytime is quietest. It also says pools are cleaned on Sunday and Monday mornings, when some may be closed, so call before a morning visit.
On a busy weekend in September 2026, a reviewer reported a long ticket queue with only one of four counters open, so expect a wait at peak times.
Other things to do
KLIA.info points to waterfalls and jungle trekking in the Ulu Muda Forest Reserve, and the council's tourism site lists rafting and kayaking. Across the state line, Kroh Hotspring at Pengkalan Hulu is about 16 km from Baling town.
Getting there
From Baling town, head north on Route 67, turn left onto K10 through Kampung Lalang, then right onto K702 and follow it to the end. Signs on the last stretch are limited, so use GPS. From Penang, take the North–South Expressway to the Sungai Petani Selatan exit and follow signs to Baling; allow about 90 minutes. A September 2026 reviewer driving back to Penang at night found the road paved but winding, with unlit stretches. From Alor Setar it is about 116 km, around 2 hours. Parking is on site and open 24 hours. There is no direct public transport; take a taxi or e-hailing car from Baling town.
Before you go
- Start in the children's or adult pools (39–40°C) and stay out of the 50°C main pool; it is not for bathing.
- Book the Pool View chalet (RM135, two adults) if you want a room facing the pools.
- Breakfast is not included with the chalets, and the guide says stalls open only 6pm–6am, so bring food for the morning.
- Avoid weekend nights between 10pm and 2am if you want space in the pools.
- Bring swimwear and a towel; a visitor guide says swimwear is required in the pools.
- Call or WhatsApp before a Sunday or Monday morning visit in case pools are being cleaned.
